Re: Gaming news Thread
My guess would be that most publishers stopped caring about keeping it fresh after seeing how many copies Call of duty keeps on selling, they think people love the same thing over and over with just one year break and they want to cash on what CoD is winning in by adopting what they are doing, I do like the option of buying games I missed out on last gen but getting rid of backwords comparability on PS3 was a really dumb move.
They only we would actually some real breaks for franchises would be when everyone is sick and tired of playing the same game and Activision starts paying for their mistake on rehashes of CoD.

Re: Gaming news Thread
Bar 2008, we've had an Assassin's Creed game every year since '07. Ubisoft Montreal has 2,100 employees and does more than just Assassin's creed, so I sure as heck hope they rotate people. I can't imagine working on nothing but Assassin's Creed projects for six years straight.

That's an interesting point. But I think a lot of what helps keep CoD sequels sell is the online multiplayer community. With each new CoD release, most players will migrate to the new game, leaving much fewer players for the older CoD games. Since online multiplayer is the main draw of the CoD games, players don't really have a choice but to move on to the new game if they still want the biggest online community. BUT THIS IS ALL SPECULATION SO I COULD BE 100% WRONG.
Largely single-player games like Mass Effect have to sell on other virtues, like immersiveness or plot, which I'm more okay with. But re-releasing the games so soon is pretty ridiculous, imo.

Just look at Modern Warfare 3. It sold a bunch but I think it's a general consensus that it wasn't as good as the previous entries, and it's not hard to see why. Infinity Ward is burnt out. All they've done for the past six years is make modern military FPS's with the same characters and same overarching story. They need something new to do, something that can get their juices flowing, even if it's just one game that takes only two years to make. Developers are people, and people need variety.
Treyarch, on the other hand, seems to be very good at not getting burnt out, and I think part of that is them being creative/smart enough to differentiate their sequels. It's all part of the 'CoD' series, but can Black Ops II really be called a sequel to Black Ops in the truest since. Are they really carrying over that much in terms of characters, settings, and story from Black Ops? Same for Black Ops and World at War. All they make is CoD games, but they also make new CoD games. That probably helps them out a lot.
Even then, I wish they could get a little more variety. If Activision was truely benign, it would hire some new studios to work on CoD wihle Treyarch and Infinity take a break and make some different games. Then they could come back to CoD refreshed and with new ideas, able to make a better CoD game than ever before.

Multiplayer is probably what largely drives players to CoD, but if the studios didn't have a single player to work on I think they might go insane. Can you imagine how mundane it would be to make a new multiplayer-only CoD game every year for six straight years?
Re: Gaming news Thread
It sucks that the cost of making games are going up so it would be a safer plan for publishers to make a game within a brand that's known rather than a new IP that nobody knows would sell.

Yeah, but honestly I couldn't tell you the plot to any of the CoDs (not that I really keep up with them anyway) but yeah, it's a shame that consumers will keep buying the same thing over and over and they don't even realize it. *goes back to playing Super Ultimate Street Fighter IV: Arcade Turbo HD Remix: Fight for the Future*

Re: Gaming news Thread
Nintendo has just detailed the New Super Mario Bros. 2 DLC that it first announced back in June at E3.
There'll be three packs made available, all of them courses for the game's coin rush mode:
- Ippatsu Shoubu de Dokidoki Pack (very difficult course)
- Gold Mario Go! Go! Go! Pack (try and get 30,000 coins)
- Kiroku ni Challenge! A Pack (get as many coins as possible)
All three packs will be out in Japan on October 2, and will cost ¥200 (USD$2.57). We'll update with Western prices and availability as they come in.
Also thanks for the nightmare fuel Iwata.

The contents of two Bioshock Infinite Collector's Editions have been announced.
In a blog post, series creator Ken Levine detailed what those who purchase the Premium or Ultimate Songbird Editions of the game will get their hands on.
The cheaper Premium Edition of the game will come with a whole wealth of extras alongside the game disc, including a 3-inch keychain of the Murder of Crows vigor bottle replica, a 5 x 7 inch lithograph by Jorge Lacera, a 25 millimetre, resin-cast Handyman miniature from the upcoming Bioshock Infinite board game and an art book full of concept art and commentary with a hand distressed cover. There'll also be digital gear up for grabs, ranging from exclusive in-game gear and a soundtrack to Xbox 360 Avatar costumes and PS3 and PC Themes.
Buying the more expensive Ultimate Songbird Edition nets you all of the above but with one big addition. You'll get a 9-and-a-half-inch Songbird statue in a period-style box, with custom artwork, all designed by Robb Waters, the concept artist who visualized the cover of System Shock, The Trickster in Thief, and both the Little Sisters and Sander Cohen in Bioshock.
The Premium Edition of the game is currently being sold at around $79.99 while the Ultimate Songbird Edition costs significantly more at $149.99. Levine ended his blog post by urging anyone who wants one of these editions to pre-order now, as they'll be sold in strictly limited quantities.
Bioshock Infinite is due to be released on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on February 26, 2013, with a new trailer for the game expected to drop in a couple of days.

That big of a box, for just the game and Comic books. Not worth the size

In the consumer's mind, bigger box = better value.

GTA 5 artwork:
RE6 update:
The update will add the following:
• Players will be able to adjust the camera to allow for a greater field of view.
• Subtitle options will be improved so that English audio can be combined with subtitles in alternative languages.
• Ada Wong's campaign will be made available from the start, rather than forcing players to complete all three other campaigns first. The update will also add an optional, player-controlled co-op partner.
• The "No Hope" difficulty level will be added to supplement the existing levels for players looking for an extreme challenge.

Re: Gaming news Thread
New CoD? Not surprising.
New MW? Mildly surprising, I seriously thought 3 would be the end of that series.

Re: Gaming news Thread
Well... that was... unexpected to say the least. I guess Valve just used their leverage to guarantee several thousand more copies on the Steam version.
Not a reason for me to get the game personally though. The sound effect made when the cars drift is like nails on a chalkboard. Plus the VA's sounded off for the TF2 chars and Wreck-It Ralph. Pyro sounded like Donkey Kong. =/

I think it was said that the TF 2 gang is a temporary thing just for PC version for now. They may allow it to come over to other copies later

It wouldn't surprise me. That video was from one of the console versions. So there data is in every version besides 3DS.KungfuCutman wrote:I think it was said that the TF 2 gang is a temporary thing just for PC version for now. They may allow it to come over to other copies later
It would probably just be for 360 and PS3 though. Unless they decide to release TF2 for WiiU.
