True. HMs are goddamn bullshit, especially since TMs are now reusable.

They should be just a natural trait a pokemon should know, like any pokemon with wings SHOULD know how to fly. And you don't even have to worry about going ahead of the game, since you'll still have blocked off cities you can't get to without visiting them on foot like in the games.

Dark caves? Use a flashlight, instead of Flash. Tough bush in your way, use a machete, or don't have them to begin with. And for the love of god teach to damn kids are to swim.
